Volleyball Danmark inspire their community to stay fit and positive
News from the National Federations

Copenhagen, Denmark, April 3, 2020. Usually, the spring months are busy and exciting times for Volleyball Danmark. These are the months where after a long season we crown our national champions for all age categories and start our Beach Volleyball tournaments outside in the sun. More importantly, these are the months, where our small but strong community of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball enthusiasts comes together to celebrate the sport and our athletes.

Yet this spring, Volleyball Danmark – like most of our fellow National Federations around the world – have to deal with another reality. This is why keeping our community active, engaged and connected has become a key focus for our federation, so we can stick together, even though we are forced to be apart – and these are some of the efforts we have made so far.

Playing together – separately
Our administration staff initiated a virtual “pepper” drill, encouraging everyone to play together – while apart - by sending us a video contribution. This has resulted in this great video with more than 50 different players of all ages “playing” the ball to each other from all corners of Denmark. It gives a sense of unity for our community, now that we cannot be together. We are more than happy to pass the ball on to the next federation and “play” pepper with each other across the whole of Europe – so let’s play!

Daily ball drills inspiration
Since March 23, we have every morning posted a type of ball-drill suitable for doing alone or with only one partner. Members of our community – from 4-year-old Ida to Jes, who is a 60+ player – show these drills. Some are simple and some others are more challenging – the most important aspect is that they emphasise the need to stay active – also with the ball touches (see example here). We have also encouraged our community to send in their own examples of good ball-drills, and we are looking forward to seeing just how creative our followers are.

Staying strong on Instagram
On our Instagram profile (@volleyballdanmark), we have asked some our country’s best Volleyball and Beach Volleyball athletes to share how they stay fit and strong with no weight rooms open. At the same time, we have encouraged all our Instagram followers to tag us in their training posts and stories, so that we can share and help inspire everyone to stay motivated and active while we wait for life to come back to normal.

From Volleyball Danmark we send our warmest greetings to everyone in the big, global Volleyball community – stay safe and see you soon for more Volleyball and Beach Volleyball!

Many thanks to Ci Eshel and everyone at Volleyball Danmark for contributing to this story!
