Golden couple on lockdown – Santarelli & De Gennaro reveal daily home routines
News from the clubs
Treviso, Italy, April 3, 2020. Daniele Santarelli and Monica De Gennaro are familiar with spending (almost) all of their time together – they are husband and wife and Volleyball unites this couple as well. As the head coach and libero of reigning club world champions A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO, they have achieved much – and this season they looked unstoppable, securing victory after victory until the coronavirus pandemic imposed a stop to all sports events across the globe. Daniele and Monica are obviously spending these days of lockdown together, waiting for better times to come.
“These are difficult times for all us but we are lucky that we can spend these days together,” Santarelli says. “I spend my days studying, watching movies or TV series, reading books and trying to keep fit with some physical activity! Now I have more time for myself and I have rediscovered some good habits that the crazy daily routine made us forget,” he continues. “I obviously hope that this will finish soon and we simply look forward to doing what we love the most – playing Volleyball, of course!”
As fans may have seen on social media, Santarelli has not stopped to train his libero (and wife) even from home, inventing some fun exercises. “This virus has literally turned our routines upside down,” admits De Gennaro. “However, I think that with every single day, we realise what is most important in life. I spend my time reading books, doing some physical exercises, watching movies and I have been testing myself in the kitchen as well,” continues the libero. “I miss Volleyball very much but we are fighting – and we can only do so all together – a much more important battle and we hope to overcome this challenge very soon.”
