Kim Yeon-Koung working hard to keep fit despite lockdown
News from the clubs
Istanbul, Turkey, April 1, 2020. These days, while we look after each other and follow the measures taken by national authorities to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, Volleyball players, like all other sportspeople, are spending their time at home – trying to keep mentally and physically fit despite the very challenging circumstances. Today we catch up with the superstar player of Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL, Kim Yeon-Koung, a former Champions League winner and MVP of the London 2012 Olympics.
“Every two days I go to the gym of our club and follow the weight training programme that our fitness coach Eduardo has dispatched to me,” the Korean superstar recounts. “Moreover, I am doing some home workout as well, always following the instructions that he has sent to us. When I do not have any such training in the morning, I wake up a little late somewhere between 8-10 am after 7-8 hours of sleep. I have a big breakfast, watch some movies, TV series and speak with my family and friends. If I have some time, I do a little bit of a home workout. I cook and watch something. So nothing very special,” she continues.
“Actually, I have to admit that it is difficult to stay strong physically and mentally under such conditions. I try to keep myself away from thinking too much. Now I keep my body ready to train as much as I can. I take care of my body by eating well. I think my body is in a good shape for now. Mentally, I am trying not to think too much about the coronavirus and to keep myself a little calm,” adds Kim.
“These days I spend most of my time at home. I do not go out but I just do shopping at the supermarket. I have started to talk with more fans and to communicate with more people. I have a YouTube channel for which I have been working more now,” the Korean outside hitter seems to see this lockdown as an opportunity to find more time to engage with her fans from across the globe.
“I believe that this period is very hard for everyone. Staying at home can be boring and it really is a challenging situation. I want to invite everyone to stay at home to make sure they remain healthy and to look after the health of their closest ones too. We have to respect one another. Please take care of your body, wash your hands and stay home if you can,” Kim concludes.
