National Federations of Serbia and Hungary sign historic cooperation agreement
News from the National Federations

Belgrade, Serbia, March 11, 2020. Earlier this week, the Volleyball Federation of Serbia and the Hungarian Volleyball Federation finalised the establishment of a cooperation agreement at a ceremony held at Belgrade’s Crowne Plaza Hotel. The respective NF Presidents, Zoran Gajic and Ferenc Kovacs, signed the agreement. Many distinguished guests, including CEV President Aleksandar Boričić, attended the ceremony.

The list of such guests featured CEV Marketing Advisor Zoran Avramovic, His Excellency Dr Attila Pinter, Ambassador of Hungary to Serbia, Mr Tamas Bako, Deputy Ambassador responsible for Economic Affairs, Ivan Knezevic, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia and many more. Gyula Mester, First Vice-President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, and Dragutin Cuk, Technical Director, as well as Adam Baran, Executive Board Member in the Hungarian Volleyball Federation in charge of the cooperation with the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, and Zsolt Ludvig, Secretary General of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation, had the pleasure of attending the historic event as well.

The two delegations discussed the possibility of establishing a closer cooperation at a meeting held earlier in February in the city of Nyiregyhaza, Hungary.

The agreement foresees a close cooperation between the two federations in a number of areas, such as the organisation of seminars for coaches, joint work in underage categories, cooperation among the clubs from Serbia and Hungary, and the opportunity to organise friendly matches and tournaments at all levels. Moreover, the two Federations agreed to bid for the organisation of the CEV U16 Women Volleyball European Championship due to take place in 2023, as well as of Beach Volleyball events.

“Both of our federations will surely benefit from this agreement. Their main interest is to work with our coaches while preparing their national teams, especially in younger categories, for international competition and on the other hand, our clubs can profit from the cooperation with Hungarian clubs, who are currently performing at a very high level,” said Zoran Gajic, President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia.

“This is a very good opportunity for us, because the Volleyball Federation of Serbia is one of the best in the world, and we want to learn from them. It is very convenient that we are neighbours. The most important areas of cooperation are the development of coaches and the underage teams,” stressed Ferenc Kovacs, President of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation.

“This was previously agreed with Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is very interested in the development of Hungarian Volleyball. I organised the first meeting between the two federations and now we are witnessing the result, which is very satisfactory for both sides, I believe,” commented CEV President Aleksandar Boričić.
