EuroVolley semi TV audience outnumbers Basketball World Cup figures in France
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men
Luxembourg, February 19, 2020. The popularity of Volleyball is increasing at a very fast pace. The figures from EuroVolley 2019 Men are especially impressive and confirm that Volleyball can attract large TV audiences. The French magazine Sponsoring.fr recently listed the top five sporting events of the year 2019 as per the TV audience and the EuroVolley 2019 Men semi-final between France and Serbia made it to the top five, reaching a truly impressive fourth place.
With 1.7 million people watching, the matchup between France and Serbia was the fourth most-followed sporting event on French television in 2019, with the top results achieved by soccer, rugby and cycling. 10.7 million people followed the FIFA Women’s World Cup semi-final between France and USA, followed by the Rugby World Cup quarterfinal between France and Wales (6.7 million) and the well-established Tour de France, which recorded a daily average of 3.7 million people on France 2.
What is especially important, EuroVolley out-numbered one of its traditional rivals, basketball, with ‘Les Bleus’ and Serbia accounting for a larger TV audience than the one registered for the FIBA World Cup semi-final between Argentina and France (1.7 vs 1.1 million).
