ROESELARE and OOSTENDE claim Belgian cup titles before 11,000-strong crowd
News from the National Federations
Antwerp, Belgium, February 17, 2020. On Sunday, more than 11,000 fans visited the EuroMillions Cup Finals, i.e. the final stage of the Belgian national cup. For the sixth time in a row, the event took place at the iconic Sporlpaleis in Antwerp with Knack ROESELARE and Hermes Rekkenshop OOSTENDE emerging as the eventual winners of the men’s and women’s competition, respectively.
“The EuroMillions Cup Finals are a lot more than ‘just’ two finals! Thanks to the great team of TopVolleyBelgium and with much focus on the sport presentation, we delivered a fantastic event with a tailor-made programme for kids and Volleyball clubs,” said Organising Director, Geert De Dobbeleer. “This is for sure the most important day for Volleyball in Belgium for players, media and all of our partners.”
Knack ROESELARE made history as they won their fifth cup title in a row. After Lindemans AALST took the first set, Knack ROESELARE just got better and better during the game and they managed to reach their top level. These two teams delivered a fierce battle on the court, passionately supported by their respective fans. A blue and orange wall, chanting side by side was one of the main features inside the arena, while the teams gave the crowd a game full of spectacle, with Knack eventually sealing a 3-1 victory.
The women’s final between OOSTENDE and Asterix Avo BEVEREN was a repeat of two matches played in the 8th Finals of the CEV Cup, which went the way of BEVEREN after two tiebreaks. However, this time OOSTENDE made amends for those losses and were the ones to lift the trophy. Both teams showed an incredible amount of commitment and passion. During the fifth set, the crowd cheered for their favourite team and it became a very close set. OOSTENDE were just a bit better in the end and took the trophy back home, thus repeating their achievement from last year.
With features such as a big LED screen, top-of-the-bill entertainment, one of the eye catchers this year was a custom-designed VIP experience for kids. Around 1,000 children got a very special VIP treatment and some very exclusive tours behind the scenes. TopVolleyBelgium as organiser wanted to focus a bit more on celebrating the youngsters, since they are going to be the stars of the future.
The next edition of the EuroMillions Cup Finals will be taking place on Valentine’s Day, i.e. on February 14, 2021 and there is no doubt that the organisers will again take it to a higher level.
