Swietelsky BÉKÉSCSABA rout Slovenian opponent in #CEVChallengeCupW
CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2020 - Women

Kamnik, Slovenia, January 24, 2020. Swietelsky BÉKÉSCSABA continued on Thursday night their successful campaign in the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2020 – Women with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Calcit Volley KAMNIK (25-14, 25-19, 25-23) in the first round of the 8th Finals.

Karla Klaric’s opening series set the tone for the match, with the Hungarian team quickly storming to a 6-0 lead. This resulted in a timeout asked by the head coach of KAMNIK but despite this, the course of the game did not change much. The visitors played confidently and firmly, Mia Jerkov dismantled the Slovenian defence multiple times – therefore, BÉKÉSCSABA won the first set more smoothly than expected.

The second set started with a few Slovenian points, but Swietelsky soon levelled the score at 4-all. The score remained tight for a while, but when Milagros Collar took the reins of the game, the visitors broke away. Olivera Brulec Kostic, the most prolific KAMNIK player, helped the home side fight their way back but the five-time Hungarian champions had the answer to that and Klaric eventually doubled their lead in the match.

In the third set, the game was a close affair up to 20-20. Despite trailing for a short while, the Hungarian team regrouped and secured a 3-0 away victory, which bodes well for the return match scheduled for February 6, 2020, from 6 pm in Békéscsaba.

Gregor Rozman, head coach of Calcit Volley KAMNIK: “We started the game making many mistakes. We were not ready to cope with their style of playing. We started the second set much better, and this is where we managed to find some balance. In the last set, I changed some of my players, my team played the best there, so I am sorry we could not take at least one set from our opponents.”

Vasja Samec Lipicer, head coach of Swietelsky BÉKÉSCSABA: “We controlled the first two sets nicely and steadily, and in the third set we let our opponent come back. In December, we started a new type of work that is not yet fully mature, but we are on the right track.”
