LINZ-STEG make it 39 wins in a row to cap perfect year
News from the clubs
Linz, Austria, December 19, 2019. Austrian champions Askö LINZ-STEG have many reasons to celebrate at the end of the year 2019. After winning the Austrian championship for the first time in the club’s 45-year-long history and claiming their fourth national cup title, LINZ-STEG advanced to the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2020 8th Finals after recording two victories over Slovenia’s SIP SEMPETER. The 3-0 home win in Linz marks the 28th victory for the team in the year 2019 alone. The winning streak of LINZ-STEG has now been lasting for 14 months and encompasses 39 matches in a row.
Roland Schwab, head coach of Askö LINZ-STEG, is obviously very pleased with the results: “We managed to keep all Austrian players on board and were able to find great replacements for our foreign players. We know that every streak will come to an end one day, but we try to keep pushing every day, so that our players improve constantly.”
The year 2020 will immediately start with big challenges. In the first two matches, LINZ-STEG will face Austrian record champions SVS Sokol/Post and 2018 champions UVC Holding GRAZ. “Winning those two games would be a big step to enter the DenizBank AG Volley League playoffs in pole position. After some days of rest, we will start preparing for the first game on January 6 in Vienna,” Schwab explains.
In the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2020, LINZ-.STEG will travel to Istanbul to play Beylikduzu Voleybol ISTANBUL. The away match is due to take place between January 21 and 23. The home game will take place in Linz on February 5.
Seven years ago, LINZ-STEG managed to reach the CEV Volleyball Cup quarterfinals and played against European top team Fenerbahce ISTANBUL. Now it is time to play in Istanbul once again.
