Schwerin, Germany, December 17, 2019. SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN claimed on Tuesday a second 3-0 victory over SLIEDRECHT Sport of the Netherlands to secure their spot in the 8th Finals of the CEV Volleyball Cup 2020 – Women.
Starting from the advantage of a 3-0 away victory from two weeks ago, head coach Felix Koslowski opted for a rather unusual line-up. Setter Denise Hanke, Kimberly Drewniok, Nicole Oude Luttikhuis, Marie Schölzel, McKenzie Adams and Lea Ambrosius were the ones to take to the court at the beginning of the match. The first set looked very promising for the home side. Hanke immediately delivered some strong serves, and following a Dutch time-out at 6-2, SCHWERIN extended their lead even further (12-4). After that, the hosts cruised to a comprehensive 25-16 win.
SLIEDRECHT Sport had a better start to the second set. The hosts, however, continued to perform well and dominated the second set too. With their strong attacks, they closed this section of the game at 25-18, thus securing the right to play HÄMEENLINNA of Finland in the 8th Finals.
The third set started with a four-point streak for the visitors. Koslowski changed his line-up for the third set. Nele Barber replaced McKenzie Adams and some mistakes resulted in missed attacks. However, halfway through, SCHWERIN turned the tide and close the match at 25-19 to seal a second 3-0 victory in as many matches.
