Beach Volleyball Commission drafts plans for 2020 and looks further ahead
News from the CEV
Luxembourg, December 11, 2019. The 2019 Beach Volleyball season ended in early November with a historic event held in Israel and with the Olympic year now in sight, the members of the European Beach Volleyball Commission (EBVC) chaired by Mr Michel Everaert reconvened earlier this week in Luxembourg for their annual plenary session.
The meeting was an opportunity to review a truly exciting 2019 season, which featured many events across the whole of Europe, with the major highlight being EuroBeachVolley held at the iconic Luzhniki Sports Complex in Moscow, Russia.
The EBVC drafted ambitious plans for the upcoming 2020 season, which include the delivery of the second as well as of the final stage of the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup. The Olympic qualifying competition will resume in May with the second stage in Austria, Spain and Turkey before reaching its climax in June with the eagerly anticipated Finals, which are due to take place in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
The Commission discussed the competition parameters for future zonal events as well – which should help promote participation for up-and-coming teams as well as grow the sport at the grassroots level even further.
The EBVC looked even further ahead, sharing views on the further development of Beach Volleyball in Europe through events that would fit into the FIVB World Tour structure for the next Olympic cycle 2021-2024. Moreover, the EBVC members analysed the existing regulations and proposed changes to align the CEV’s regulatory framework with the provisions set by FIVB.
With this being the last meeting before elections are due to take place next June in Moscow, Mr Everaert thanked all EBVC members for their hard work and contribution over the last four years towards growing Beach Volleyball in Europe and cementing the leading status of the sport even further.
