Zaksa start domestic season with Supercup triumph
News from the clubs
Kedzierzyn-Kozle, Poland, October 24, 2019. Polish reigning national champions Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE started the domestic season in the best possible way as they beat Projekt WARSZAWA 3-1 (25-18, 34-32, 19-25, 25-23) in Gliwice to secure the Supercup title.
Aleksander Śliwka and Italian Simone Parodi were the ‘heroes’ of the match along with setter Benjamin Toniutti, who has fully recovered from an injury he suffered at EuroVolley. Projekt WARSZAWA could not count on a full roster and even though Antoine Brizard, Bartosz Kwolek and substitute Igor Grobelny tried their best, it was not enough to stop the more experienced team of Zaksa.
“I know that this match was a far cry from our top performance, but I am glad that delivered at least something that was up to the expectations. We are facing a difficult season, which is why we are happy with such a successful and promising start,” said Zaksa head coach Nikola Grbić.
MVP of the encounter was the opposite hitter of Zaksa, Lukasz Kaczmarek.
The eight-time Polish champions will start the league season on October 30 with a match against MKS BEDZIN. Moreover, they are due to contest the CEV Champions League Volley 2020 as one of three Polish teams in the competition.
