Red Lynxes captain sets sights on top eight finish at #EuroVolleyM
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men
Madrid, Spain, August 2, 2019. The EuroVolley Men is coming up soon and all teams are working equally hard to prepare for the championship. Spain is not an exception to this rule, as highlighted by their team captain, Jorge Fernandez.
“We do have the ambition to continue to improve as a team, and we want to progress as far as possible in the tournament. We are in a strong pool, with big teams, but I think that we can fight for the victory with each one of them and achieve our goal: make it through the pool and play with the best teams of Europe,” he says.
The secret of this group of young players is to work hard, to work every day to improve their condition and deliver the best possible performance. “To compete at the European Championship is a great motivation by itself and each match it is very important to us,” explains Jorge Fernandez, who wants to start the competition with a victory over Slovakia, “since a victory with a direct rival will give us much confidence.”
The next opponent will be the hosts, Belgium, so the emotions will run even more freely. “It will be a special game and a nice one to play.” For the captain of the Red Lynxes, Serbia is probably the toughest rival: “They always fight for the medals. Our weapons: play at the highest level, fight for each point until the final one and enjoy it.” Germany is a tough rival in the pool too, “but in the last matches against them, we achieved good results.” The direct rival of Spain is Austria, a very important match to play and win if the Red Lynxes are to achieve their ultimate goal at #EuroVolley: “We want to be among the top eight teams in Europe,” the Spanish captain concludes.
