Know Your ‘Super Teams’ – Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA
CEV Champions League Volley 2019 Super Finals

Luxembourg, May 11, 2019. Even though they recently lost the finals of the Italian national league to Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO, there is still plenty at stake for Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA. The Italian team has qualified for the first time in their history for the title-deciding match of the CEV Champions League and they will be trying to make amends for their losses in the Italian championship by seizing the most coveted crown in European Volleyball – and with it, a record-breaking € 400,000 prize money.

NOVARA will count on their superstar Paola Egonu to seize the title at Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin in the first #CLVolleyW all-Italian gold medal match since 2005.

These are some interesting facts to know about the team coached by Massimo Barbolini:

•    Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA are the ninth Italian team featuring in the Champions League final. No other country has had more than four different CL finalists (4 by Russia).
•    NOVARA’s previous best result in the competition was a fifth place in 2017/2018, when they lost to Galatasaray SK ISTANBUL in the Playoffs 6.
•    NOVARA ousted two-time defending champions VakifBank ISTANBUL in this year’s semi-finals. They won the Golden Set after a sensational 3-0 win in Istanbul and a 1-3 defeat in Novara.
•    NOVARA’s 1-3 home loss against VakifBank in the semi-finals was their first defeat this CL campaign (W9-L1).
•    This CL season, only Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL (84) scored more points from aces than NOVARA (78).
•    Paola Egonu (54.84%) has the best blocker efficiency in this season’s CL.
•    Egonu is NOVARA’s top scorer in the CL this campaign on 183 points, fourth most among all players.
•    Egonu scored 69 points in the semi-finals, at least 32 more than any other player did.
