Istanbul, Turkey, March 22, 2019. A number of Volleyball pioneers witnessed on Tuesday night Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL comeback from two sets down in their matchup with Italy’s Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI before the hosts secured their spot in the semis of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women.
The Yellow Angels could count on some special supporters on Tuesday night when playing the Italian rookies of SCANDICCI at Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall. The audience included indeed members of the very first women’s Volleyball team of Fenerbahce, and especially the real founder of their Volleyball branch, Mrs Ayten Salih Berkalp.
Born in 1933 in Limassol, Cyprus, Mrs Salih is a truly legendary figure in Turkish Volleyball and sports as she helped establish the Volleyball, Basketball and Athletics branch of Fenerbahce in 1954.
On Monday, she paid a visit to the team captained by Eda Erdem Dündar on the eve of their match with SCANDICCI before attending the game with the Italians together with many more pioneers of Turkish and Fenerbahce Volleyball.
Mrs Salih joined CEV Supervisor Plamena Stoykova to award Melissa Vargas as the MVP of the game with SCANDICCI at the end of a truly memorable night for Fenerbahce, their Volleyball pioneers as well as the current group of Yellow Angels.
