Follow Your Star – Maxim Mikhailov
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men

Luxembourg, March 17, 2019. Maxim Mikhailov is literally one of a kind. To list his accomplishments would take more than just a while – but let us focus on his Olympic gold medal from London 2012 and five Champions League crowns with Zenit KAZAN. Maxim is currently chasing yet another accolade with the Russian armada as Zenit vie for their seventh #CLVolleyM title – and fifth in a row as their reign started in 2015 in Berlin.

Even though they are yet to drop a CL match since early 2016, Zenit KAZAN were close to suffering a sensational loss earlier this week at the hands of Trefl GDANSK. Zenit KAZAN wasted twice a lead in the match with the Polish underdogs before coming out on top at the tiebreak.

Mikhailov, who was Europe’s Male Volleyball Player of the Year back in 2017 after securing the #CLVolleyM and #EuroVolleyM crowns within a span of less than six months, scored 27 points to help the team from Tatarstan extend their winning streak.

The humble and down-to-earth Maxim, probably the most decorated Volleyball player of the last decade, will play a key role in a couple of days in the re-match with Trefl as Zenit hope to add another chapter to their success story. Maxim turns 31 on Tuesday – the very same day Zenit play GDANSK at home, so he is certainly hoping to make himself a present by securing a spot in the semis of the world’s premier Volleyball competition.
