2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Luxembourg, March 16, 2019. Fenerbahce Opet ISTANBUL are only two sets away from securing a spot in the semis of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women after their 3-1 away victory at Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI. Their Mexican outside hitter Samantha Bricio was highly instrumental towards the success of the Yellow Angels as she scored as many as 21 points in Florence – the same figure recorded by her teammate Melissa Vargas.
Bricio is spending her first year with Fenerbahce and in the Turkish national league as well after playing for two seasons in Italy with Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO.
Fenerbahce have a record of six wins in seven matches they have played in the Champions League this year – with their only loss coming at home to Dinamo MOSCOW.
The Turkish heavyweight owe much to Bricio – who scored 111 points in the pool phase to confirm her status as one of the world’s rising Volleyball stars. Bricio is chasing her third straight podium finish in the Champions League – as Imoco Volley finished second in 2017 and third last year. However, Bricio could not contest the 2017 Final Four that Imoco hosted at Palaverde in Treviso due to injury.
With an average of 5.08 points per set in the competition, Bricio is second only to Vargas in her team and next week she will hope to lead Fenerbahce to a second victory over the Italian rookies to secure a spot in the semis – where the Yellow Angels are likely to go for a Turkish derby with Eczacibasi VitrA. Let us wait and see what the return matches will deliver… Bricio, a graduate of the University of Southern California, will be among the ones to follow closely, yet again!
