Knack ROESELARE to carry out special action against colon cancer
News from the clubs
Roeselare, Belgium, February 26, 2019. Before and during the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League match between Knack ROESELARE and United Volleys FRANKFURT scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, the action “Stop colon cancer” will run in sports hall Schiervelde. During the line-up, a team photo of the home team with a suitable and clear message will appear on the LED wall. Meanwhile, Mr Francis De Nolf, President of Knack ROESELARE, will briefly clarify the importance of the action “Stop colon cancer” to the audience. Moreover, during the match, four hostesses will go around with boxes in order to raise funds for this action.
Colon cancer remains an important cause of death in Flanders (Belgium): every day, five Flemish people die from this disease. However, there is a good possibility to prevent it: polyps (which are the precursors of colon cancer) can be detected through a simple and free stool examination. If the test is abnormal, a bowel test must be done to remove these polyps.
In Flanders, there is an efficient screening programme set up by the government: the number of people taking part in it is good, but it can always be better. By bringing this disease to the attention, we dare hope that more people participate in the screening test and that colon cancer can be stopped.
