Krystal Rivers signs two-year contract with Allianz MTV STUTTGART
2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Stuttgart, Germany, February 25, 2019. Although the team still has to cope with a painful defeat in the National Cup final with SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN, Allianz MTV STUTTGART have one reason to celebrate even before their last match in the pool stage of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women. USA opposite hitter Krystal Rivers has signed a contract to play for the Germans for another two years.
Last season Krystal Rivers dominated the French National League and scored an impressive tally of 419 points to win the title with BEZIERS VB. This year, the USA national team player is wearing the jersey of Allianz MTV STUTTGART and impresses Volleyball fans as well as her opponents throughout Europe by virtue of her outstanding athleticism and powerful spikes.
Currently Krystal Rivers is the second-best scorer in the 2019 CEV Champions League and the most prolific player in the German Bundesliga and her career will continue in Europe. The Alabama-born opposite extended her contract with STUTTGART for another two years.
"I am very proud of having such a key player for another two years in Stuttgart. Krystal did prove many times, how precious she is in our team and we are very happy about the extension of her contract,” says Sports Director Kim Renkema. “My aim for continuity and stability is obviously successful. After the extension of contracts with our libero Roosa Koskelo and our setter Pia Kästner, we now can say that our main attacker is a quality name.”
Amazingly, these early extensions of contracts are carefully prepared in a phase of high pressure, with the Cup Final last weekend, the last pool match in the Champions League on Tuesday at Maritza PLOVDIV and with the German Bundesliga in full swing.
“We all have worked very hard to create a comfort zone for top-level players in Stuttgart, where they are able to develop even more,” says Renkema and Krystal Rivers is one of the players who appreciate this right away: “This was an easy decision for me. I have been feeling very comfortably in Stuttgart from day one on. With Allianz MTV STUTTGART, I found the perfect place to continue my career. We play a high-level Volleyball. Everyone around the team has high goals. Like me.”
Naturally, head coach Ioannis Athanasopoulos is very happy about the new contract for Rivers: “She is a player who works very hard and a very precious team member. She brings a lot of power into our offense and I am very pleased to work with her for another two years.”
