TRENTINO ease into #CEVCupM semis
2019 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Trento, Italy, February 13, 2019. TRENTINO Itas claimed a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-13, 25-16) also from their home matchup with Lindaren Volley AMRISWIL to qualify for the semis of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. The reigning world champions did not leave a chance to their Swiss opponents and as a result, in the next stage of the competition, TRENTINO will be playing Neftohimic 2010 BURGAS of Bulgaria or Greece’s Olympiacos PIRAEUS.
Despite missing elite players such as Srecko Lisinac, Uros Kovacevic and Simone Giannelli, who enjoyed some rest on Wednesday night, the second lines of TRENTINO did very well, especially Lorenzo Codarin who scored seven points, including two blocks, to receive the MVP award. Luca Vettori helped TRENTINO close the first set 25-22 in their favour before Maarten Garderen and Aaron Russell were instrumental towards the 3-0 victory achieved by the hosts. Two young players – Filippo Pizzini and Alessandro Michieletto – enjoyed the opportunity to play, though briefly, a European Cup match as well.
“We knew we had a better preparation but we had to confirm it on the court,” said TRENTINO coach Angelo Lorenzetti at the end of the match. “We did it by playing with the right attitude; the first set was not easy but we did not expect them to choose such a starting six and it took us some time to find the right rhythm. Later on, we found it and everything went smoother. We have entered a different moment of our season and we have to stay focused and play well, maybe also by lining up players that our opponents do not expect to face.”
