Yamamay too strong for ASPTT MULHOUSE VB
2019 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Busto Arsizio, Italy, February 6, 2019. Yamamay e-work BUSTO ARSIZIO enjoyed the support of some 1,500 fans as they powered to a comprehensive 3-0 home victory in the first round of the CEV Cup quarterfinals. Some 50 fans from France attended the match as well, but the local ‘Butterflies’ were just dominant and they will need to take two sets from the rematch in Mulhouse to seal their ticket to the semis. Britt Herbots and Sara Bonifacio scored 14 and 12 points, respectively, to set the pace for BUSTO ARSIZIO. Anastasia Guerra registered 11 for MULHOUSE with an impressive 63% success rate in attack.
Yamamay stormed to a 19-11 lead in the first set but Guerra and Carli Snyder reduced the deficit for the visitors (21-18), before Kaja Grobelna and Alessia Gennari sealed a 25-22 win for the hosts. Guerra and Alexandra Frantti contributed to a 10-6 early advantage for MULHOUSE in the second set but Yamamay fought back soon to draw level at 10. There was a brief interruption due to a blackout which lasted for 15 minutes before the match resumed – and the ‘Butterflies’ closed the second set in their favour as well (25-23). ASPTT MULHOUSE VB tried to respond in the third set with Snyder and middle blocker Olga Trach but Yamamay’s setter Alessia Orro found good distribution as Herbots and Gennari propelled the home side to a 25-17 win.
Kaja Grobelna, player of Yamamay e-work BUSTO ARSIZIO: “It is important to have won 3-0, especially because now we can face the return match with more confidence. It was a difficult match because MULHOUSE is a good team, but we played well. The key of the match? For sure our serve.”
Ciara Michel, player of ASPTT MULHOUSE VB: “It is always exciting to play at Palayamamay, I was happy before the game to see many friends and meet again the fans ‘Amici delle Farfalle’. Now I am less happy, because we have made a lot of mistakes, especially in serve and reception. I hope we will play better in the return match with the support of our fans in our arena.”
