Stiinta BACAU edge Czech rivals to set sights on #CEVCupW semis

Bacau, Romania, February 5, 2019. On Tuesday night, Romania’s Stiinta BACAU edged VK UP OLOMOUC of Czech Republic at the tiebreak to make it a step closer towards reaching the semi-finals of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.
It was a thrilling match on Tuesday night in Sala Sporturilor, filled with an enthusiastic public. The home team won the first set 25-19 after showing a very good defence and serving game, but the Czech team came back in the second set due to an impressive performance of their spiker Martina Michalikova. The Romanian team went again in front, as they won the third set after coming back from 19-21, with six consecutive points. The fourth set was a real thriller, with the Czech team leading 17-10 and the hosts coming back to lead 23-21, before OLOMOUC managed better the last points and sent the match into a tie-break. With the support of a very raucous public, Stiinta BACAU were better in the fifth set, they served and blocked better than the Czechs did and deservedly won 3-2.
Florin Grapa, head coach of Stiinta BACAU: “I am glad that we won the match, although we could have done it in four sets. Maybe we could have served better sometimes, but I am happy with the result, and I think the public was satisfied with the game. For the away match, I think the pressure will be on the Czech team and we will go there to qualify for the semis.”
Jiri Teply, head coach of VK UP OLOMOUC: ”I think it was a great match and maybe we lost it because we were a bit tired, after playing this past weekend two matches in the Czech Cup. Regarding the next match in Olomouc, I believe that the chances for the qualification are equal, 50-50.”
