Belogorie on a roll in #CEVChallengeCup 8th Finals
2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men

Belgorod, Russia, December 19, 2018. Belogorie BELGOROD started their journey in the 8th Finals of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men with a more than confident victory over Omonia NICOSIA 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-11).

Slobodan Kovac gave the chance to play their first Challenge Cup match for Belogorie to John Gordon Perrin and Nemanja Petric. Since the middle of the second set, however, they made space to play for their young partners Anton Semyshev and Pavel Tetyukhin. The second half of the match, Belogorie BELGOROD played with a completely different starting six but this change never influenced the eventual result.

Belogorie’s middles Alexander Gutsalyuk and Alexander Safonov were the top scorers of the match with nine and seven points respectively, while Omonia’s opposite Achilleas Petrakidis registered seven for his side.

Belogorie BELGOROD team captain Denis Zemchenok: “We did not see any tough struggle today. However, we know that teams like Omonia expect more from their home match. We will not make the mistake to relax too much when playing there. For us this match was a chance to prepare better for the next match of the Russian championship against Kuzbass KEMEROVO.”

Omonia NICOSIA middle blocker Angelos Alexiou: “We already knew that Belogorie is a much stronger team, but we came here to represent Cyprus and to enjoy the game. It was a great experience for us to play with those players who we usually watch on TV. Surely, in the next match in Cyprus we will play better as we will be with the full team, and together with our supporters. We want to play a good match so that Volleyball fans in Cyprus can also enjoy the game.”
