Belogorie, Stade Poitevin and Savo Volley record 3-0 wins to book ticket to 8th Finals
2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men
Belgorod, Russia, December 4, 2018. Last year’s CEV Cup winners Belogorie BELGOROD of Russia continued their triumphal march in the 2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men by securing a second 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-12, 25-17) in as many matches they have played with Penzügyör BUDAPEST of Hungary and with it a spot in the 8th Finals of the competition.
The Hungarian team could not pose any real threat to the hosts, as Belogorie’s players were just better in every component of the game. Slobodan Kovac again had a good chance to try his young players on court and they showed their best side. It took Belogorie less than an hour to qualify to the next round of the competition where they will face the Cyprus team of Omonia NICOSIA.
Slobodan Kovac, head coach of Belogorie BELGOROD: “We won these two matches but it does not mean we have to celebrate too much. I had a chance to test my young players and to see what they can do. We did our job to qualify to the next round.”
Zoltan Jokay, head coach of Penzügyör BUDAPEST: “I am disappointed because I expected a bit more from my team. Of course, we knew that the team of Belgorod is one of the highest level. However, the first match in Budapest was much better for us. Today we did not use our head to play. I would like to say good luck to Belogorie. I think this team is one of the best in this edition of the Challenge Cup.”
Two more teams secured their spot in the 8th Finals on Tuesday night. These are Stade Poitevin POITIERS of France, who easily routed Estonia’s rookies SAAREMAA VC 3-0, and Finland’s Savo Volley KUOPIO, who recorded their second straight 3-0 victory over VCA AMSTETTEN NÖ of Austria.
