Serbian rising star Drazen Luburic aims high with Halkbank ANKARA
News from the clubs
Ankara, Turkey, November 15, 2018. Halkbank ANKARA are working hard ahead of their first match in the pool stage of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men. On Tuesday, November 20, they will be hosting Knack ROESELARE of Belgium and Serbian opposite hitter Drazen Luburic is especially excited ahead of his debut in Europe’s elite club competition.
“This is my first match in the Champions League and I know it is going to be an experience in its own,” Luburic said. “We have been working extremely hard for the last two weeks since we did not have any match in the national league. It is our first match with a foreign opponent this season, so it is a challenge but we are ready to play at 100% of our abilities.”
Luburic moved to Ankara after playing for Serbia at this year’s World Championship, where he finished fourth. “Halkbank provides a good environment and everything is well organised here. We have everything we need to train and to improve with every day,” the Serbian player says.
As many as six members of the team come from the youth division of Halkbank, so that means that the backbone of the team is quite united. “I am maybe a little more experienced than some other players but we are working together and all of us train as intensively as the younger ones do, since we all want to achieve the same goals,” Luburic admits. “I think I have adjusted to life in Ankara pretty quickly and everything has been going smoothly. I hope to see some interesting places here in Turkey and to enjoy the rest of the season.”
