Budapest, Hungary, November 15, 2018. Wednesday night was a special one for Hungarian Volleyball as for the first time in history two Hungarian teams - Vasas Obuda BUDAPEST and Penzügyör BUDAPEST - were competing in the European Cups in the same hall in the same evening - and both eventually qualified to the next round of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup.
The women's team of Vasas Obuda BUDAPEST was the first to play. They lost their first match 1-3, when visiting Formula Formis ROGOZA in Slovenia a week prior, so they had to win this one to stay alive in the competition. The result was the same this time around, with the difference that the Hungarian girls were the ones to win 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 25-13, 25-17). This called for a Golden Set, where the home team managed to stick with a winning streak and claim the deciding set 15-7 in their favour, meaning the Hungarian fans could start the celebrations as their team qualified for the next round and play UVT Agroland TIMISOARA of Romania there.
The next ones to take the stage were Penzügyör BUDAPEST and Wörter-See-Löwen-KLAGENFURT. Penzügyör won the first game in Klagenfurt 3-0, so the pressure was all on the Austrian team. They couldn’t handle it, and the Hungarian team won again (25-20, 25-20, 25-20), just like they had done in Austria. Their next opponent will be Russian standout Belogorie BELGOROD.
The event was amazing for the fans, and it helped bring members of the Hungarian Volleyball family closer to each other.
