News from the clubs
Kedzierzyn-Kozle, Poland, November 8, 2018. Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE boast an immaculate record in domestic competitions so far this season, following their victory in the matchup with JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel, another contender for the top honours in the Polish national league. Zaksa are one of three Polish teams due to compete in the pool stage of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men where they will take on Italy’s powerhouses Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA and Azimut Leo Shoes MODENA as well as on Czech national champions VK ČEZ KARLOVARSKO. Zaksa’s goal is to finish second in their pool in order to be in contention for a spot in the quarterfinals of Europe’s elite club competition.
As for the match with JASTRZEBSKI, the respective coaches and good old friends Andrea Gardini and Ferdinando De Giorgi did meet once again on the court – while Dawid Konarski, who now plays for Wegiel, returned to Kedzierzyn-Kozle to receive a special welcome from club President Sebastian Swiderski.
The clash however did not live up to the expectations and only once Zaksa had to come back from a deficit. A great team effort produced a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-22, 25-20) for Zaksa and libero Paweł Zatorski received the award for the MVP of the match. It was the sixth consecutive win by Zaksa this season and it is worth mentioning that the club from Kedzierzyn-Kozle is the only one in the league that so far has not dropped a single point.
