Estonia champions SAAREMAA VC braced to host historic Challenge Cup match
2019 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men
Kuressaare, Estonia, November 6, 2018. Reigning Estonian champions, National Cup winners and Credit24 Champions League champions SAAREMAA VC will host GENTOFTE Volley of Denmark on Tuesday night in a truly historic CEV Challenge Cup game in Kuressaare.
This is the first ever match for SAAREMAA VC in any of the European Cups, so the hosts will be making history tonight. On the other hand, GENTOFTE Volley have a long history in European competitions. Last year they participated in the CEV Challenge Cup as well, where they started from the qualification round and made it to the Round of 32 where they lost to eventual champions Bunge RAVENNA of Italy. The year before, GENTOFTE Volley played in the CEV Champions League first round and after that, they continued their journey in the CEV Cup. Their first footprint in Europe dates back to the 1995 edition of the CEV Cup.
Urmas Tali, head coach of SAAREMAA VC: “We have been preparing for these games for the last few months. First, we need to concentrate on our own game and there is not much room for mistakes. If we are able to avoid many breaking points, we can be successful. GENTOFTE Volley have a lot quality, they play fast, do not make many mistakes and are technically good.”
Hannes Sepp, Manager of SAAREMAA VC: “This game is a big deal for not just the club but also for the whole community in our island. We expect a full house tonight and hopefully the team can give our fans a good show.”
