Eczacibasi VitrA set the bar high for 2018-2019 season
News from the clubs
Istanbul, Turkey, October 27, 2018. After transferring some elite players to strengthen their roster, Turkish powerhouse Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL opened the 2018-2019 season earlier this week with a press conference followed by the seventh edition of the annual event “Volleyball at Kanyon”.
Eczacibasi Sports Club President Faruk Eczacibasi, accompanied by Board Members, the full roster and staff, shared information with the media about the new members of the team and the major goals set for this season.
Marco Aurelio Motta stays on as the team’s head coach. Jordan Larson, Büşra Kılıçlı, Tijana Bošković, Güldeniz Önal, Meliha İsmailoğlu, Beyza Arıcı, Simge Şebnem Aköz, Gözde Yılmaz, Ezgi Dilik, Dilara Bağcı continue to wear the shirt of the ‘orange team’ as they did last year. Kim Yeon-Koung, Gamze Kılıç and Lauren Gibbemeyer transferred to Eczacibasi this past summer, while Merve Atlıer has moved from the Eczacıbaşı Academy to the Senior Team for the coming season.
In his address, Mr Faruk Eczacibasi referred to the IOC Women and Sport Trophy that the Turkish club received earlier this month in Buenos Aires. “In the 52-year-old history of our club, our women’s Volleyball teams have won 74 championships in total, with 52 claimed by the Senior Team and another 22 by the under age groups. However, the main motivation behind our reception of this award was not the sportive success of our team but the investments and support that we have made for Volleyball and women. We have always believed in our girls and supported them. They have showed us and the whole world what Turkish women can achieve when they have enough opportunities to do so.”
Faruk Eczacibasi also shared his thoughts about the upcoming season.
“Starting the season once again with the aim of both national and
international achievements, our main goal is to win the Spor Toto
Champions Cup. After this Cup, we aim to win the Turkish league, the
Club World Championship and the CEV Champions League. To achieve this
goal, we start the season with a squad that is strongly determined and
committed to each other. I believe that we will all enjoy a season that
will offer us many exciting and competitive matches.”
After thanking sponsors Pegasus, Oto Plan, Dent Group, Erikli, Koton, Allianz, Axa Sigorta and Mizuno for their support, he also added, “The best way to thank our sponsors is to win and bring cups back home when the season comes to an end.”
Volleyball at Kanyon
After the press conference, the Eczacibasi VitrA Volleyball Team hosted the annual event “Volleyball at Kanyon”. While they signed their exclusive posters for the fans, the players took pictures with guests from different ages as well.
