LAUSANNE UC claim Swiss Supercup to start season with a bang!
News from the National Federations
Lausanne, Switzerland, October 8, 2018. Reigning Swiss national champions LAUSANNE UC started the 2018-2019 season in the best way as on Sunday they routed domestic rivals Lindaren Volley AMRISWIL 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-23) to claim the Supercup. LAUSANNE UC will be playing in the CEV Volleyball Cup this year, with their journey in European competitions starting with a double fixture against Ukraine’s Barkom-Kazhany LVIV.
LAUSANNE UC caught a very promising start to the 2018-2019 season, where their intention and ultimate goal is to retain the national league title they won back in the spring of 2018. Jonas Kvalen, who earlier this summer had a successful campaign in the EuroVolley qualifiers with the Norwegian national team playing as a setter and opposite, received the award for the Most Valuable Player of the Supercup. “Playing the Supercup was a wonderful experience and it was amazing to take the trophy back home! Swiss Volley arranged two great games in a nice gym with many spectators that created a wonderful ambiance,” Kvalen says.

Swiss Volley did indeed choose the same venue for the organisation of the women’s and men’s Supercup, with Viteos NEUCHATEL Université seizing the women’s title. “We have trained a lot and worked very hard in the lead up to the season opener and had a couple of friendly matches, but you never know how it is going to be when the season eventually starts,” Kvalen continues. “After Sunday’s match, I can say we have done a great job so far and we are well prepared for the rest of the season. Winning the Supercup was one of our goals this season and I am very happy we have done it!”
MVP Jonas Kvalen with the Supercup trophy
The 26-year-old Norwegian player is obviously happy with the individual award as well. “I got the MVP prize and I am very happy and surprised! I mean everyone in our team could have gotten that prize because this was a true team victory; everyone delivered exceptionally well on the court. However, I can say that I am very proud to receive it, especially since this is my first season as a receiver.”
