Minchanka secure fifth national league title ahead of historic appearance in CEV Cup finals
News from the National Federations
Minsk, Belarus, March 30, 2018. Minchanka MINSK have claimed the Belarusian women’s national title at the end of a ‘short’ best-of-five championship series with Pribuzhie BREST. Earlier this season, Pribuzhie – whose roster consists primarily of members of the U19 women’s national team – had edged Zhemchuzhina Polesie MOZYR, the silver medallists from the 2016-2017 edition of the Belarusian national league, in the semis. Minchanka needed three matches only to retain their crown – and secure the fifth title in the history of the club from the Belarusian capital.
Minchanka easily claimed the first and second round of the championship series without dropping a single set. Anzhelika Barysevich top scored towards a compelling 3-0 win (25-8, 25-15, 25-16) in the first matchup as she registered 13 points, including four blocks and successfully finishing eight out of 10 attempts in attack. Hanna Hryshkevich tallied up 21 points, including seven aces, in the second 3-0 win for Minchanka (25-12, 25-10, 25-15). Minchanka comfortably won the third round as well (25-17, 25-17, 25-15) to seal their fifth national title after those they had claimed in 2007, 2010, 2016 and 2017.
The real highlight of the season is somehow yet to come as next week Minchanka will contest the final stage of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women against Turkish powerhouse Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL in what has already been a record-breaking performance for Belarusian Volleyball on the international stage, since this is their best result ever in the European Cups.
