SCHWERIN expect Pomi to fight back after German sensational victory in Italy
2018 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Schwerin, Germany, February 27, 2018. The expectations of the local supporters in Schwerin are mounting as the repeat of their favourite team’s CEV Cup quarterfinal match with Pomì CASALMAGGIORE is coming up soon. The tension is rising too and this was easy to tell during a press conference, held on Monday, just one day after a painful defeat against VC WIESBADEN (2-3) in the German national league. However, the players and coaching staff look ahead and especially forward to the matchup with the Italians scheduled for Thursday, March 1.
Apart from a few seating places, spectators and supporters will have to purchase standing tickets as the Palmberg Arena is nearly sold out, stated Andreas Burkard, managing director of SSC Sportmarketing. This high demand is a huge support for the team and asks the players for an above-average performance, underlines head coach Felix Koslowski. Such an outstanding performance is what the home side will have to deliver if they want to fulfil their goal of progressing to the semi-finals.
Koslowski and libero Luna Carocci summarised the howling success in Cremona by singling out the key elements in their team’s performance, such as service, block and defence. After winning an incredibly close first set (35-33), the German team played without any more pressure against the 2016 Champions League gold medallists.
Koslowski complimented his Italian libero for her enthusiasm and her energetic commitment on the court; he himself did not believe the match would take such a course before travelling to Italy. However, no one in the room dares to think that CASALMAGGIORE can be surprised the same way again and all members of the club expect a very tough fight.
“The team arriving in Schwerin tomorrow knows our strengths and weaknesses now, we need another sensation to reach the next round,” claims Koslowski. Carocci supports her coach: “We expect a very tough reaction from their team. They will act more aggressively and take all risks to win against us. We will have to keep the pressure high from the beginning and need to be very courageous!”
Referring to their squad, the German team has a lot of respect for their Italian opponents. Players such as Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez (202 cm), Martina Guiggi or Jovana Stevanovic are physically strong and very experienced. Felix Koslowski will hold on to similar tactical plans as the ones, which worked so well during the match in Cremona. Everyone in Schwerin is excited about the upcoming match. A potential opponent in case of a German victory on Thursday could be one of the world’s best clubs, Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL.
LAOLA1.tv will provide live streaming of the quarterfinal match between SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN and CASALMAGGIORE.
