DRESDNER SC will not make it easy for STUTTGART
2018 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Dresden, Germany, February 27, 2018. It is quite a different week than usual for DRESDNER SC as they play two all-or-nothing matches this week. On Wednesday, they contest the second leg of the quarterfinals in the 2018 CEV Volleyball Cup against Allianz MTV STUTTGART and then there is the German Cup Final against VC WIESBADEN at the weekend in Mannheim and the initial position before those two matches could not be any different.
DRESDNER SC are the favourites in the German Cup Final but they have nothing to lose on Wednesday as Allianz MTV STUTTGART won the first match in Dresden in emphatic style. “I think it will be the first time for us that we have no pressure going into a match. After losing at home, we have nothing to lose so we can just play the game,” says middle blocker Barbara Wezorke. When asked if her team maybe does not care about the return match in Stuttgart, she replies: “We definitely don’t go into a match with the mentality to lose. We won’t make it easy for STUTTGART, that’s for sure!” The CEV Cup is the last opportunity for the team from Saxony to get some extra self-esteem going into the National Cup Final.
Barbara Wezorke is one of three strong middle blockers at DRESDNER SC. However, even though the competition to get a spot in the starting six is quite high, Wezorke is her greatest critic: “My own demands are really high. I am almost never satisfied as I know that I can improve here and there,” says the 24-year-old. Together with Ivana Mrdak and Sasa Planinsec, the three middles push each other at every practice and when the time comes, everyone can change a game.
To create the best possible conditions for the all-or-nothing matches, DRESDNER SC decided to use a different approach for travelling. Normally a Volleyball team would not fly five times during one week as it is quite expensive but special circumstances require special measures. “I think that anything can happen and that it is really important that the team is able to adapt to the circumstances. I look forward to these matches,” Wezorke concludes.
