Benfica with high ambitions ahead of re-match with Steaua
2018 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men
Lisbon, Portugal, January 30, 2018. After claiming the first round two weeks ago by 2-3, Benfica’s Volleyball team face the decisive game in the 8th Finals of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men. At 8.30 pm on Wednesday, the ‘Reds’ face CSA Steaua BUCURESTI at the Pavilion n. 2 and they are heading towards this duel with high expectations.
Aware of what they need to do to overcome the Romanian obstacle, head coach José Jardim warns that Steaua may be a hard nut to crack because of their serve and attack, but he is confident that Benfica is capable of withstanding the Romanian team’s quality.
“Steaua is a very strong team, especially when it comes to their serve and attack. In the first leg, our team played very well and did not allow Steaua to take advantage of their main weapons; they tried to force even more and they made many mistakes. This means that we have to be prepared to play even better than we did there to win this tie,” said the coach to Benfica TV.
Jardim calls on the presence of the local supporters and promises that Benfica will give everything on the court to secure their progression to the quarterfinals of the European competition.
“The supporters are essential, even more so, because we will play against a very strong team. The fact that we won the first leg gives us confidence, but nothing more than that. We will enter the game to win,” Jardim concluded.
