Viking TIF BERGEN claim NEVZA Men’s Club Championship title
News from the Zonal Associations
Copenhagen, Denmark, January 29, 2018. On Sunday afternoon, Viking TIF BERGEN from Norway faced BK Marienlyst from Denmark in the ‘grand finale’ of the NEVZA Men’s Club Championship. The Vikings left no doubt about who were the strongest team in that encounter, securing the title after a comfortable 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-21, 25-11).
It was the second time in three days that Viking faced Marienlyst, as the two teams also crossed swords in the Playoff match on Friday evening. In this encounter, Viking TIF BERGEN emerged victorious as well, and for that reason Marienlyst were eager to make amends for that loss in the final with the gold medals at stake.
However, the final was quite one-sided. The Norwegian side were too strong at blocking and in defence as well and managed to find the right solutions to keep scoring.
“It never was a big match from our side,” says Marienlyst coach, Peter Lyø. “We missed some of our key players due to injuries, but all credit and praise to Viking, who played a great match and deserve to be NEVZA Champions,” he continues.
The NCC title is Viking’s, formerly known as Nyborg, third championship win since 2013.
BK Tromsø from Norway claimed the bronze medals after defeating Randaberg 17-15 in the tiebreak for a 3-2 victory.
