Burel hopeful Spacer’s TOULOUSE VB can change course of their season
2018 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men

Toulouse, France, January 30, 2018. Two weeks ago, the Spacer’s TOULOUSE travelled to Berlin for their third matchup in Pool D of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men and this is a match – and a journey – they will barely forget. Because of a heavy storm in northern Europe, the players were stranded for two days and they had to go through an adventurous journey to get back to France.

“This is not something that we will forget that quickly,” says 26-year-old Nicolas Burel. Despite this experience and another two losses in the French national league, Burel stays positive and remains hopeful he can contribute to a turnaround in a so far disappointing season for the French team.

The middle blocker is not someone who gives up that easily. “I have to show more aggressiveness at blocking,” he says when referring to his main role in the team. Burel, who is studying engineering at INSA Toulouse, acknowledges that it has been a tough time for him and his team. “It is very challenging and demanding to cope with all these tasks, but at the end of the day, this is something I like and enjoy. When you pursue academic studies, you think about something else than Volleyball and this is very enriching. However, sometimes it can be so demanding that you feel like you would give up on everything.”

This, however, will not be his attitude on Tuesday night when the Spacer’s will be vying for their first victory in Pool D when hosting the BR Volleys.
