DRESDNER SC’s Ivana Mrdak - “We should concentrate on our own strength”
2018 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Dresden, Germany, December 12, 2017. Even though the season has just started, DRESDNER SC’s secret weapon Ivana Mrdak already experienced some ups and downs. After just two matches in the German league, where she received the MVP award once, the Serbian middle blocker broke a finger on her left hand during practice and had to watch the game from the side-lines for six weeks. However, she kept travelling and practicing with the team. “It helped me a lot to stay with the team,” she says.
Mrdak came back even stronger after the short break against the current leaders of the German league, SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN, last week. DSC head coach Alexander Waibl placed his trust in Mrdak, immediately put her back into the starting six after the injury healed and she paid it back. With 18 points, she even became the top scorer of the match that DRESDNER SC won 3-2 after almost two thrilling hours of high-class Volleyball. “I am very grateful, that Alex trusted me to make my comeback in such an important match and I wasn’t afraid to go for the blocks as my hand feels great again,” says the 194cm tall Serbian with a big smile.
Mrdak does not look back. Just forward – especially to the start of the European competition on Wednesday. DRESDNER SC face Pays d’Aix VENELLES VB in the first round of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Cup at Margon Arena, at 19.00 CET. Mrdak is confident going into the knockout matches against the French Cup champions from Venelles. “We have the advantage to play at home in the first match and there is this amazing audience behind our backs,” she says. “I look forward to an exciting match. We should concentrate on our own strength and show what we are capable of.”
The match can be watched online at LAOLA1.tv or with German commentary at MDR.
