KLADNO Volejbal cz come from behind to claim tiebreak win!
2018 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Kladno, Czech Republic, December 8, 2017. KLADNO Volejbal cz came back twice from one set down on Thursday night while playing Romania’s C.S. Arcada GALATI in the 16th Finals of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men to eventually claim a 3-2 home victory (27-29, 29-27, 21-25, 25-22, 15-12) in a truly nerve-wracking match.
The visitors broke away after the first technical time-out of the opening set to lead 16-11. Vladimir Sobotka (who eventually scored three aces throughout the match) helped the hosts level the score but GALATI responded by claiming a four-point lead. The Czech team fought bravely and equalised again at 22-all. KLADNO had three set points but the Romanians eventually won the first set 29-27.
The second set was even more dramatic. The score remained close from start to end, and the teams were somehow waiting for a mistake from the other side of the net. The hosts had the first set point before GALATI had two of their own. KLADNO with a fantastic Tomas Hýský stormed back and eventually took the set by the same score sealed by GALATI in the previous one (29-27).
The all-important third set was a close affair only until the first technical time-out. After that, the team from Romania claimed a three-point lead with their fantastic blocks. KLADNO did not find any way to turn the score around and GALATI edged ahead again (2-1).
The hosts, however, did not give up and started the next set very aggressively and they got a five-point lead by the second technical time-out. In the last part of the set, GALATI fought back (23-22). However, KLADNO extended the game to a fifth set with an ace and a great block.
The tiebreak started better for the Czech team. However, the visitors soon cancelled the two-point lead of the Czech team but the hosts were two points ahead again at the side switch. KLADNO could not capitalise on a 13-10 lead, as GALATI won two points in a row and it looked like another turnaround was about to happen – but KLADNO responded to finish it all off at 15-12.
