Reigning national champions claim France’s Supercup
News from the clubs

Mulhouse, France, October 9, 2017. France’s ASPTT MULHOUSE cemented their status of leading force on the domestic stage as they started the 2017-2018 season by taking the Supercup following a speedy 3-0 victory in their home matchup with Pays d’Aix VENELLES VB. As a result, ASPTT MULHOUSE added an extra trophy to their showcase following the historic national league title they claimed this past spring.

ASPTT MULHOUSE dominated from start to end – with the match lasting only 80 minutes as their setter Aziliz Divoux orchestrated their offensive game with eventual MVP Britt Herbots, Bojana Markovic and Hayley Spelman doing most of the work at the net.

“I especially liked the spirit shown by my players from start to end of the match, and this is particularly important to me,” said ASPTT MULHOUSE head coach Magali Magail. “It was the first match of the season and we immediately found the right rhythm and chemistry; as soon as we took to the court, I felt good,” commented ASPTT MULHOUSE libero Léa Soldner.

ASPTT MULHOUSE will represent France in the 2018 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League – as they make their first appearance in Europe’s elite club competition since the 2013 season.

France’s reigning national champions CHAUMONT VB 52 Haute Marne claimed the men’s Supercup as they beat their opponents GFC AJACCIO VB 3-1. “We are still at the beginning of the season, so we lack consistency in our game and we still have to build the team, but it was good to get started this way,” said the Italian coach of CHAUMONT, Silvano Prandi. “The roster has changed since last year, so we still lack chemistry and we are getting to know each other, but everyone did score the points when needed,” said the eventual MVP, Stephen Boyer, who chipped in with 22 points.

After finishing second in last year’s CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup, CHAUMONT VB 52 will make this season their debut in the CEV Volleyball Champions League.
