Thessaloniki, Greece, May 10, 2017. PAOK THESSALONIKI wrote history in the packed court of Olympiacos PIRAEUS winning 3-1 in the fifth matchup featuring these two teams, and with a 3-2 win overall deservedly won the third Greek national league title in their history. It was a fascinating finale in the most exciting championship of all time which made history due to the three overturns in the finals and the high level of Volleyball on display.
The winners made a great appearance believing in their triumph and managed to win in this series of finals, even without their normal opposite Sasa Starovic. They had great technique, awesome service, and very few mistakes and so, PAOK triumphed over Olympiacos who had 3,000 supporters by their side.
The MVP award in the championship seires of the Hellenic Volley League was won by Alexander Shafranovich.
The coach of PAOK Jorge Elgueta stated: “I dedicate this to the Council and President who believed in me. I tried to help the players from the first minute. We didn’t give up even after we lost the fourth match. MVP for me is all of the team.”
The great protagonist of the fifth final Dante Amaral said: “We won one more time. It was a very hard series of games. Olympiacos had won in our home and we did so in theirs. Today we did a superb game. I feel great pleasure and we will celebrate it.”
The great unfortunate of this year’s season Ernardo Gomez stated: “We are champions. We had a lot of injuries and we also changed coach. Both of the coaches are in my heart. I am a player, and not assistant coach and I will be back.”
On Tuesday PAOK THESSALONIKI celebrated together with their fans in PAOK Sports Arena their third consecutive title in the Greek Volleyball league. In this occasion, the President of the club Volleyball division, Mr Antonis Tsalopoulos revealed the contract with the coach Jorge Elgueta would be extended for one more season.
