Getting to know the ‘Magnificent Four’ – Dinamo MOSCOW
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women

Luxembourg, April 19, 2017. Dinamo MOSCOW will be making this coming weekend their first appearance in the Final Four of the CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women since 2009 – eight years ago, they had to be content with the silver medal after losing a dramatic final to Italy’s Volley BERGAMO in Perugia. Once more, they will have to deal with an Italian team – as they play hosts Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO in Saturday’s second semi-final at Palaverde in Treviso.

Dinamo MOSCOW have not lost a single match this season in Europe’s elite club competition – they indeed swept six in a row in Pool B where they proved too strong also for the extremely cosmopolite ensemble of Volero ZÜRICH – before routing Italy’s Liu Jo Nordmeccanica MODENA with a double 3-0 in the Playoffs 6.

Dinamo MOSCOW will be trying to emulate Dinamo KAZAN – the only Russian team capable of standing on top of the podium in the women’s CEV Volleyball Champions League, a feat they achieved in 2014 when the Finals took place at the iconic Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Actually, the team from Russia’s capital won the former Champions Cup as many as eleven times back in the 1960s and 1970s – but they have never repeated that same achievement more recently and especially since the CEV Volleyball Champions League’s establishment in the 2000-2001 season. Their best result to date coincides with the silver medals they won in 2007 and 2009.

Their roster includes a good share of the players featuring on the Russian national team – such as Nataliya Goncharova, Ekaterina Kosianenko, Yana Shcherban, Irina Fetisova – plus two foreign-born outstanding players, namely Croatia’s Maja Poljak and Bethania de la Cruz de Pena from the Dominican Republic.

Taking about one-of-a-kind individuals, in Treviso Poljak will be chasing her fifth Champions League crown – she previously won the trophy in 2005 and 2007 with Volley BERGAMO, in 2011 with VakifBank and in 2015 with Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL.
