Fakel NOVY URENGOY two sets away from Challenge Cup crown
2017 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men
Novy Urengoy, Russia, April 15, 2017. After securing a 3-1 victory this past Wednesday on French soil, Russia’s Fakel NOVY URENGOY will host on Sunday the final act of this year’s CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men when playing France’s CHAUMONT VB 52. The matchup in Paris showed that Fakel have to work hard to seize the much-desired crown of the Challenge Cup. The players from the Yamal Region are contesting their second consecutive final in the competition after last year they ended up losing to Italy’s Calzedonia VERONA.
Their 3-1 away victory leaves the door open for Fakel to achieve this goal. They ‘only’ have to win two sets to raise the trophy before their home fans. “CHAUMONT VB 52 have a very solid team and they play really good especially in reception and service, so we are preparing very carefully for the rematch here in Novy Urengoy,” said the head coach of Fakel, Camillo Placi.
CHAUMONT VB 52 put up a real fight in Paris and were close to calling for a tiebreak, but Fakel NOVY URENGOY showed their quality and character to win two equally close third and fourth sets. Now they will be trying to use the home-court advantage to add another trophy to the impressive collection of the Russian Volleyball family.
