Trento, Italy, April 12, 2017. TRENTINO Diatec rallied to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over TOURS VB (25-14, 25-19, 25-17) to keep their immaculate record in home matches – 22 so far – they have contested in the 2016-2017 season and set their sights on the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men crown. The Italians are now two sets away from claiming their eighth international trophy – following three consecutive titles (2009, 2010 and 2011) in the CEV Volleyball Champions League and four from the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship (2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012). On Saturday, once the rematch takes place in Tours, TRENTINO Diatec will have to take two sets to celebrate their first European Cup triumph since 2011.
TRENTINO Diatec stood out in all aspects of the game, recording as many as seven aces and 11 blocks – three contributed by Sebastian Solé. The visitors from France could not keep the pace of TRENTINO – and the hosts easily won the first and second sets as well. TOURS VB claimed a 9-7 lead in the third set but TRENTINO responded by scoring seven points in a row to flip the charts around and cruise to a compelling 3-0 victory. Tine Urnaut top scored with 11 points and received the award for the MVP of the match, as Jan Stokr followed suit with 10 points.
“We played a great match and put a lot of pressure on the opponent with our service,” said TRENTINO Diatec head coach Angelo Lorenzetti. “This way, we were able to overcome some problems we had at the beginning with our block-defence system. This is an important victory but what happened in the semis with Fenerbahce SK ISTANBUL is there to warn us that we should not underestimate the next match, especially since many things can change in only a few days. We will probably have to fight more in France but this is normal because this is a European final.”
TRENTINO Diatec will travel to Tours on Friday morning and return home on Easter Sunday following the re-match at Robert Grenon sports hall.
