Dinamo MOSCOW and BR Volleys to fight for ticket to Rome
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men
Moscow, Russia, April 10, 2017. This coming Wednesday, April 12 Dinamo MOSCOW will be hosting Germany’s BERLIN Recycling Volleys in a rematch of their 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men Playoff 6 fixture after last week the Germans came back from two sets down to rally to a sensational 3-2 home victory.
The first matchup between the BR Volleys and Dinamo MOSCOW was a real drama – and even though the Muscovites claimed a 2-0 lead, the Germans came back strong to emerge victorious at the tiebreak. Dinamo MOSCOW could now make it to the Final Four if they win the home match by 3-0 or 3-1 – so their destiny is entirely in their hands.
The BR Volleys are Germany’s most decorated team of the last few years – the reigning national champions as well as the 2016 CEV Cup gold medal winners. They have not lost a single match on home turf this season; however, they do not boast that same record when playing on the road.
They have a very international roster, with only half of their players being German. Two of their stars, Robert Kromm and Nikola Kovacevic, previously played in the Russian national league – in Ufa and Nizhny Novgorod, respectively. Australians Luke Perry and Paul Carroll are among their star players as well. Carroll played a leading role in the fourth and fifth sets of last week’s match with Dinamo, as he was just unstoppable and scored point after point. The setter of the BR Volleys, Tsimafei Zhukouski, has been a member of the Croatian national team for many years already.
Dinamo MOSCOW have a record of four wins and three losses in previous matches with Germany’s VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN and BR Volleys. The German teams always rely on the strength of their collective – whereas Dinamo focus on fast, powerful Volleyball, especially with the help of Denis Biriukov, Alexander Markin and Yury Berezhko. As a result, there is much to look forward to on Wednesday night – when a number of Olympic champions – Berezhko, Alexander Volkov, Sergey Grankin and Dmitriy Ilinykh – and many more Volleyball stars will fight for a ticket to this year’s Final Four scheduled for April 29-30 in Rome.
