Trento, Italy, March 28, 2017. At PalaTrento, TRENTINO Diatec again found their best shape and took an important first step towards a third European final in a row by defeating the Turkish team of Fenerbahce SK ISTANBUL 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-23). After this important result, in order to gain qualification for the Final, Filippo Lanza and his team-mates will just need to win at least two sets in the return match, scheduled for Saturday night on the Bosphorus.
The hosting team has achieved this important result thanks to an almost perfect performance in the first two sets, played with high percentages in attack and great efficiency both in the block and service areas of the game. TRENTINO Diatec proved to be very determined in the third set, the only one in which its opponents put up any kind of significant reaction.
Nine yellow-blue aces (four scored by Lanza) and the great show of the attack made the difference, especially in the first half of the match. The captain (awarded as MVP with 79% kill rate in attack) offered outstanding spikes and a high-level performance in all aspects of his game.
“Despite the positive result we’ll go to Turkey knowing that tonight we have just done half of our job to reach the final match. In Istanbul we’ll have to be ready to fight – stated coach Angelo Lorenzetti at the end of the match - We showed our consistency in improving our service and defence that we lacked in the last match. We need to improve many other aspects and we will work hard in the next days. Fenerbahce caused us problems, especially in the second part of the match, thanks to the change of the setting role, which proved to be positive.”
TRENTINO Diatec will leave for Istanbul on Thursday morning aiming for their seventh European final overall in the CEV competitions.
