SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN welcome BURSA BBSK in remake of 2015 semi-final
2017 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women
Schwerin, Germany, March 27, 2017. SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN have swept all of their matches so far in the 2017 edition of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women, thus progressing to the semis without dropping a single set. “However, now we have to play against a team representing the strongest league in the world,” says head coach Felix Koslowski, who is also the head coach of the German women’s national team. Their next opponent, BURSA BBSK, currently sit in fifth place in the Turkish national league “and in this match we are not the favourites for the first time in this year’s Challenge Cup,” Koslowski continued.
Two years ago, SCHWERIN and BURSA BBSK locked horns in the semis of the Challenge Cup as well – with the Turks emerging victorious before they went on to seize the title. After securing their third straight appearance in a semi-final of the European Cups, the players of SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN want to show that they belong to the European elite. They are ready for the next chapter of their adventure, knowing that against BURSA BBSK team captain Jennifer Geerties and her colleagues have to ‘catch’ two perfect days in order to play at the same level as the star players on the roster of BURSA BBSK, such as outside hitter Dora Horvath and middle blocker Ivana Prokopic.
Back in 2015, SCHWERIN won the home match against BURSA BBSK 3-1 but lost in Turkey the all-deciding Golden Set (10-15). However, this should not be a bad omen and the team and fans of SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN are motivated to use the home-court advantage to win the first semi-final and to have an option for the away match, which will be taking place in Bursa on Sunday, April 2.
