TRENTINO thrash PIACENZA in first round of Italian derby
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Piacenza, Italy, March 1, 2017. The first round of the Italian derby on schedule for the quarterfinals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men ended in a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-23, 25-21) for TRENTINO Diatec over LPR Volley PIACENZA. TRENTINO needed slightly more than one hour to rally to a comfortable win as PIACENZA struggled to find their way into the game and even Leonel Marshall and Viktor Yosifov could not do much to change the course of the match. Jan Stokr, Tine Urnaut and Filippo Lanza paced TRENTINO on their way to victory as only Trévor Clévenot could put up a real fight for PIACENZA.
TRENTINO made almost no mistakes in the three sets they played with PIACENZA – their block looking as solid as a rock and putting a lot of pressure with their service.
“We did not play our best, that is for sure,” commented LPR Volley PIACENZA opposite hitter Georgios Tzioumakas. “TRENTINO, on the other hand, proved their worth and determination. We must forget this match as quickly as possible and roll up our sleeves for the next matches. In only a few days we will play Sir Sicoma Colussi PERUGIA in the quarterfinals of the national league and we want to make amends for this heavy loss.”
TRENTINO and PIACENZA will lock horns again in two weeks with a spot in the semis of the CEV Cup at stake.
