Telekom hopeful to bid farewell in style
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women
Baku, Azerbaijan, February 25, 2017. Azerbaijan’s Telekom BAKU – who are almost sure they will finish first in their national league – will bid farewell to the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women by hosting Italy’s Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO, i.e. the team that will be playing host to the Final Four tournament on April 22-23 in Treviso. Telekom have lost five matches in a row so far in Pool A and on Tuesday, February 28, will be trying to finish their campaign in style at Sarhadchi Sport Olympic Centre in Baku.
Though they have lost five matches in a row, the young players of Telekom have nevertheless been able to show their abilities – Yelyzaveta Samadova is currently the seventh best spiker of the League Round, and Olena Hasanova is the second best blocker of the competition.
“We know that Imoco Volley are stronger than our young players and we expect that the visiting team will be trying to perform to the best of their abilities, but we will be doing the same,” said Telekom BAKU head coach Zoran Gajic. “We very much wish to provide our fans with something to cheer about at the end of this match.”
Samadova, the team captain of Telekom, commented: “We have played five matches against some great teams so far and these have provided us with the opportunity to gain some valuable experience. These matches have really helped us perform the best we could in the matches we have contested in the Azerbaijani national league. I am sure that this experience will be instrumental to further success for our national team. As for the upcoming matchup with CONEGLIANO, we will be trying to do our best.”
