Turkish giants to lock horns again on Wednesday night
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women

Istanbul, Turkey, February 21, 2017. VakifBank ISTANBUL have a perfect record of four wins in as many matches they have contested so far in Pool D of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women. They will be trying to extend this streak on Wednesday when playing city rivals Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL at VakifBank Spor Sarayi. Since 2011, VakifBank have played Eczacibasi 11 times – and won 10 times. If they take another three points, VakifBank will secure their spot in the Playoffs 6.

So far, Zhu Ting is the best scorer for VakifBank in the competition, with an average 5.2 points per set. Milena Rasic is the best blocker of the Turkish team with one kill block per set.

“There is no need to say that Eczacibasi VitrA have a strong team and to stress how difficult this match will be,” said VakifBank head coach Giovanni Guidetti. “We are as prepared as always and we are confident we can win. I am very pleased with the performance my players have been delivering these last few weeks. I expect a real fight.”

“We won our last match with Eczacibasi in the national league 3-0 but this is history now and it has no meaning ahead of the match on Wednesday,” said VakifBank setter Naz Aydemir Akyol. “The CEV Volleyball Champions League is a completely different story and the importance of this match is much bigger. These two teams know each other very well and we know what we have to do in order to win. We are aware that a tough fight is awaiting us and as a result, we have prepared better than for any other match. We have to win this game to finish first in our pool and reach the Playoffs 6 and I hope we can achieve this goal.
