Two more sets is everything TRENTINO need to progress to CEV Cup quarterfinals
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Trento, Italy, February 14, 2017. TRENTINO Diatec will be playing VaLePa SASTAMALA on Wednesday night in the return match on schedule for the 8th Finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. TRENTINO Diatec will start from the 3-0 victory they claimed two weeks ago in Finland and as a result, they need to win another two sets to secure their progression to the next round of the competition. The Italians will also be willing to make amends for the 0-3 heavy loss they suffered to Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA in the last round of the national league.
“The match we played two weeks ago in Finland lived up to what we expected,” said TRENTINO coach Angelo Lorenzetti. “VaLePa SASTAMALA have a very competitive team, and they are good especially in reception, so they have been able to record a high percentage of success rate with their side-out. The result of the match we played in Finland is truly important but to progress to the next round we have to remain focussed on the home game as well, something you always have to do when playing this kind of opponent.”
All players are fit and ready to perform, so will make his choices at the very last moment with regard to the starting six. The eventual winners of this tie will play Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD of Serbia or Italy’s LPR Volley PIACENZA in the quarterfinals, with the Italians having an edge after they rallied to a 3-0 home win two weeks ago.
TRENTINO and VaLePa SASTAMALA are playing each other for the first time – and TRENTINO have a record of three wins in as many matches with Finnish teams so far, following their two 3-0 wins over Hurrikaani LOIMAA in the previous round. Two weeks ago, Tine Urnaut top scored with 16 points to contribute to a comprehensive 3-0 victory in Finland. TRENTINO have a 16-3 win-loss record in the CEV Volleyball Cup; they only lost twice to Halkbank ANKARA in 2005 and once to Dinamo MOSCOW in 2015.
