Fakel host Vikings in battle for Challenge Cup semi-final spot
2017 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men
Novy Urengoy, Russia, February 14, 2017. Two teams from the far north, Russia’s Fakel NOVY URENGOY and Norway’s Viking TIF BERGEN are set to compete for a spot in the semis of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men. Fakel will be hosting the first round of the quarterfinals on Thursday, February 16.
Fakel NOVY URENGOY are one of the top sides in the highly competitive Russian Superleague and the fans in the Siberian city are used to enjoying high-class and interesting Volleyball matches. Fakel played in the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup last season as well and all of their home matches – especially the final with Italy’s Calzedonia VERONA – turned into a real happening for the people of Novy Urengoy.
As for Viking TIF BERGEN, the Norwegians outplayed Slovenia’s OK SIP ŠEMPETER in the previous round to make it to the quarterfinals of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup for the first time in their history. The Vikings have been working hard ahead of the matchup with Fakel and so NOVY URENGOY will have to play their best if they want to get an edge ahead of the re-match scheduled for February 28 in Norway.
